I think a lot of gay people do get that the license isn’t the ceremony, but the license gives legal rights that just a ceremony can’t. Lia and I can get married every day of the year, in every church that will have us; but we won’t get the legal rights we want so much. I want to the legal ability to be with my partner when she is recovering from surgery as much as I want the legal right to divorce her.

I also think I’m missing something here. Explain, if I am?

This is what happens when I write half-assed posts at all hours of the morning -
I usually forget the middle parts…
i.e. you’re not missing something, my post is…

It’s missing the part about the absurdity of thinking that:
a) it’s more than just a licensing issue (from the state’s view)
b) any group of humans should be excluded from getting that license
(which is at its core presently serves only to generate revenue and reduce inbreeding).
c) denying this can, in any way, shape, or form be construed as virtue.

I know the fears of this being the camel’s nose in the tent
(for the social conservatives)
and I can’t discount that….

I’ve also seen (from those who tend to get the coverage)
a longstanding deep-set anger that I don’t believe will be sated
by the passage of laws or granting of rights.

I’m hearing more noise than signal
from whichever of the collective stations I’m tuning in.

I can’t think of anything else to say now…
