a Chinese drive-by funeral
just as I was getting ready to leave for work,
I witnessed something that I can only describe
as a drive-by Chinese funeral.
A caravan of vehicles pulled up in front of my apartment -
a flower truck, a hearse, a limo,
and 2 funeral home vehicles (Choi Funeral Home, IIRC).
The limo, which had blinking lights like an unmarked police car,
had pulled over to the side.
Two men from the funeral home stood on the pavement facing the limo
and played a recorder-like instrument and cymbals,
after which I saw a woman dressed in a black outfit with a white scarf-like belt
knock on the door of the house across the way.
As she returned to the limo,
the hearse’s rear door was opened.
A child and another woman emerged from the limo
(similarly dressed - black outfit, white sash)
the child holding the picture of a young chinese woman
and the other woman was holding 2 flags,
one of which was the US Flag.
They lined up facing the now open hearse and bowed,
after which they returned to the limo,
the hearse’s door was closed
and then the cars left.
interesting day to start the morning….
