Ripped Pants and Iced Tea (2005/09/07)
September 7th, 2005Don’t feel much like writing today, but that’s what separates the pros
from the dilletantes….
Got to work and was behind the register again until 3:45pm. When I went
to the bathroom, I realized that I had a rather large rip in my pants.
It was easily enough hidden, but it did make me self-conscious for the
rest of the day….
It’s now 10:20pm and I’m on my way home
Riding the subway…. Trying not to spill a cup of unsweetened iced tea
I have in my briefcase….
Just finished the iced tea -
no more problem with that…..
I’m sitting on the 20 bus for the last leg
Of the trip and I’m seeing @ 5 other people
On cell phones - like they’re all someplace
Else…. Reminds me of william gibson’s definition of cyberspace as
“The place you are when you’re on the phone”
It seems that most of us aren’t here,
And when we have to be here, we
Invent all kinds of ways for us to both
Be here and not be here, hence our penchant
For relativism. Relativism lets us claim to be here and not be here and
dismiss any
“A vs. Not-A” attempts at reality checking
As “intolerance”.
