my much belated take on Ted Dekker…
May 28th, 2006I didn’t exactly have a good Ted Dekker book experience the first time around -
mainly because I bought The Martyr’s Song and mistakenly formed
my opinion of him as an author solely upon my reading of that book.
I’ve read Blink, a more representative work,
and I realized that he writes extremely compelling 200+ page thrillers,
and that judging him on a 120 page inspirational novella would be like
judging Frederick Forsyth’s work by reading a Chicken Soup for The Jackal’s Soul book.
The Martyr’s Song was the only book I’ve ever purchased where I was so
aggravated by its failure to pay off on plot expectations raised
on both the story and the story within the story that I considered returning it.
Blink was a real page turner, although it got a wee bit heavy handed
at the end, especially when there was a theological point to be made-
but not so much so to make me walk away from the story as a whole.
