what’s going on – 2009-06-20

Saturday, June 20th, 2009

my BG is out of control -
170 w/ gusts to low 200’s

stress levels high -
the job that gives me my health benefits
is wrecking my health.

am sinking into negativity,
do not want to do that.

need to relax, can’t seem to relax.

don’t know how this will end -
or when for that matter -
but it will end.

have to keep telling myself that.

So what am I supposed to do with my life?

Saturday, May 2nd, 2009

So what am I supposed to do with my life?
What’s my purpose?
How am I supposed to know what God created me to do??

Great questions, aren’t they?

And no matter how many times we ask them,
it seems like good answers are real hard to come by, aren’t they?

So what if I told you that the answers to these questions
might be found in the very stuff that irritates us?

The stuff that drives us crazy?

The stuff we run from.

The stuff we try to distract ourselves from
so we don’t have to deal with?

Sounds crazy, doesn’t it?

That the very stuff in life we run from
is what God wants to use to show us our purpose in life.

Well, that’s the topic this weekend…

how God uses the exasperating stuff of life
to show us what we were created to do.

I promise that this talk will cause you to think…
and maybe, just maybe, God will use it to
make a “light bulb” go on in your head.

Wouldn’t that be neat?

Please invite lots of friends this weekend because
this topic is so relevant to everyone.

The license is not the ceremony…

Saturday, January 3rd, 2009

Same-Sex Marriage..
from a civil standpoint, I see it as a licensing issue.

The state licenses marriages.

That license gives legal standing
(in the eyes of the state)
to those who later engage in either a
civil or religious ceremony
that is the outward sign of their commitment
to go through life together.

The license is not the ceremony.

I’m convinced that people on either side of the issue
just don’t get that.

Fear and resentment find their homes
equally amongst those for and against the issue.

Although I hope the proponents of same-sex marriage
realize that marriage is a blue plate special – you get it all:

  • loveless and loving
  • unfaithful and faithful
  • separated and united
  • vicious divorces and amicable dissolutions

A lot of bad can happen
when the love is gone
and only the law remains.

Shane Claiborne, author of Jesus for President, to speak at Franklin Mills this weekend

Monday, September 29th, 2008

This should turn out to be a really great set of services -
just don’t come expecting this to be a rally for McCain (or Obama for that matter).

This is from my pastor:

This coming weekend, Shane Claiborne,
author of Jesus for President,
will be speaking at our services.

Shane will be speaking about
what it means to live as a “citizen of heaven” in the world today
and how this should impact our everyday lives.

In preparing for Shane,
would you please be praying for the following?

  • Pray that God blesses our services.
  • Pray that God leads Shane as he speaks.
  • Pray that God brings lots of unchurched people to our services.
  • Pray about who God would have you invite.

God is going to use our services in a significant way this weekend.
I can’t wait to see what He does!

I am praying to You because I know You will answer, O God.
Bend down and listen as I pray.
Psalm 17:6

Be praying!

Why my Facebook page won’t have Twitter posts anymore

Friday, July 18th, 2008

I guess the twitter post about the Wharton Grad had something to do with this.

Backtracking a bit…

The store where I work
has a Facebook group
and uses Facebook to advertise.

I’m a member of that group.

My Facebook page autoposts
all of my tweets.

Not the brightest move.

Got called on it today.

I’ve essentially gutted my facebook page – it’s now a
collection of inoffensive
notes and carefully worded
statements from now on.

No animosity – I don’t even use it that much.

just feeling like another
page is turning.

stubbornness kills – thoughts on my neighbor’s death

Friday, July 18th, 2008

I learned something today –
stubbornness kills.

One of my neighbors died today.

She was totally dehydrated, wouldn’t eat or drink.

When the ambulance came for her the day before,
because she had passed out,
she still didn’t want to go to the hospital.

And now she’s dead.

It’s 1 AM, and it’s just me, thinking.
Remembering.

If I ever needed to know anything about the
comings and goings on my block,
she would be the one to ask.

Not that I ever asked.

Stubbornness kills.

How much of being the standup guy
who plays hurt and keeps on going
is just stubbornness as virtue?

Like I said before, it’s 1 AM and it’s just me here.

Emily update – 07/01 – rehab?

Tuesday, July 1st, 2008

July 01, 2008 at 09:29 PM EDT
Tonight at 7pm marked 3 weeks since the accident on June 10th. Emily remains stable but is still unconscious. My parents, Jody and I were excited to see her yawning for the first time today. There is also still some very slight movement of the head and her eyes are wide open most of the time that we visit with her.

My parents have begun to meet with representatives from two rehab facilities and are hoping to reach a decision within the next week about where to take Emily. Please pray that they would have wisdom in this decision.

We continue to pray for her full recovery. Tonight my parents read Romans 15:13 and found it extremely comforting during this time of transition (we move tomorrow) and waiting for Emily. They would like me to share it with all of you and thank you for the overwhelming support you have shown to our entire family.

“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him and may you overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” Romans 15:13

Please continue to pray and hope with us that Emily will be restored.

Emily update: “guardedly hopeful”

Thursday, June 19th, 2008

The latest from the Pray for Emily Facebook Group -
now at 1,624 members strong!

NEW UPDATE!!!
The results of Emily’s brain scans are in
and the doctors said that the results are “guardedly hopeful”.

They said that a normal person would score
somewhere between 8-12 and Emily scored a 6.

This seems low, but there is room for improvement
and this is not her final score.

So again, she is not out of the woods yet
but the doctors seem optimistic that
she could move up her score
and possibly recover or at least improve.

Emily has always been a fighter.
I have never known her to give up,
so lets keep praying that she stays strong
and continues to fight. – Wednesday June 18 (4:00pm)

*also, as of today they are starting
to wean her off of the ventilator,
today it was put on a much lower setting,
her breathing looks much more peaceful :)
